Nowadays, more and more animals are at the brink of extinction due to human activities, Hammerhead sharks are one of them, if we do not save them, they could soon disappear from some parts of the earth permanently. The article is meant for everyone, especially for those who like shark fin soup. The article has shown how human endanger shark population by removing their fins and turn them into a bowl of soup.

The writer is probably hopping to raise the awareness in people on the issue of protecting endangered animals. By giving relevant data like “73 million sharks were killed annually to supply the fin market and approximately 1 million to 3 million are hammerheads” and “Just 2.2 pounds of the coveted fins can sell for $120 U.S. dollars in Asian markets”, the writer are trying to show the huge demand of shark fins in the market, and the amount of damage that human have caused to the shark population

In many parts of the world, including Singapore, people eat shark fins during important occasions such as wedding, for the wealthier ones, maybe more often than the others, like what the article have mentioned, eating shark fin soup have become a tradition, a sign of wealth, especially to the Chinese and these could not be changed overnight.

To save the endangered sharks, it will be a long-term effort that people have to put in. Since the banning of sales of shark fin soup is impossible for now, it is up to individual to do their part in saving the animal.

After reading the article, some might want to help by giving up shark fin soup, it is not something that is essential for our body growth and it is not worth taking a shark’s life just for nothing more than a bowl of soup. As for me, I do not eat shark fin soup and I will like to keep it that way.
